Historical Significance / Compassion, Animal Liberation and Children's Welfare
An End to Cruelty and Disease
Because of the Anti-Cruelty Society, animals gained their rights and they were given hope when their owners had left them for dead.
Also, urban streets are safer today from stray animals, diseases like rabies and parasites like lice. |
Animals are People Too
If a society accepts the idea that its people have basic inalienable rights then it must give all its creatures the same rights. There is now a resistance against scientific experimentation, commercial exploitation, and even greater public sympathy for wild animal conservation.
|
Children's Rights
Just as the Anti-Cruelty Society educated the public about the welfare of the most defenseless animals, their work inspired other groups to pioneer helping other helpless members of society - children and the poor.
|
Mission Today
According to the current president, Robyn Barbiers, “The Anti-Cruelty Society
is committed to being Chicago’s comprehensive, open door humane society. To achieve such a goal, we need to have solid programs and vision.” |
